How to Request an Absentee Ballot in Orange County

There are three ways to vote in Orange County. You may vote early at an early voting site, vote at your polling place on election day, or you may vote an absentee ballot by mail.

You may request an absentee ballot by completing an Absentee Ballot Request form or you may call our office at 407 836-2070 and ask to have a ballot mailed to you. One request is sufficient for you to receive absentee ballots for all elections in a calendar year unless you specifically ask for certain dates or if a special election is called which was not scheduled at the time you made your initial request. The absentee ballot request will be considered canceled if any first class mail is sent to you and is returned by the post office as undeliverable.

A member of the voter's immediate family or the voter's legal guardian may request to have a ballot mailed to the voter if the voter has authorized them to do so. Immediate family is defined by Florida election law as a spouse or parent, child, grandparent or sibling of the voter or of the voter's spouse. If an immediate family member does request the absentee ballot for the voter, the immediate family member will be asked for the following::

The name of the voter, address of the voter, and the voter's date of birth; the name of the requestor, the requestor's address, the requestor's drivers license number, if available; the requestor's relationship to the voter; and, for written requests, the requestor's signature.

There is now a deadline for requesting to have an absentee ballot mailed to you. The deadline is 5 p.m. on the sixth day before the election. The Supervisor of Elections, then, has to mail any absentee ballot no later than four days before an election.

The absentee ballot will be mailed to the voter's mailing address on file with the Supervisor of Elections unless the voter specifies that:
1. The voter is absent from the county and does not plan to return before election day OR
2. The voter is temporarily unable to occupy his or her residence because of some natural disaster OR
3. The voter is in a hospital , assisted-living facility, nursing home, or some other type of short-term medical or rehabilitation facility or correctional facility.

Information as to who requested an absentee ballot is exempt from public records and is available only to a voter who requested a ballot, a canvassing board, an election official, a political party or official thereof, a candidate who is opposed in an upcoming election and to registered political committees and committees of continuous existence for political purposes only.

The deadline for returning the absentee ballot is 7 p.m. on the day of the election.
