Misleading Letters

""

Published on Mon, 04/06/2020 - 16:58

Starting the week of April 6, some Orange County residents may receive letters and pre-filled voter registration applications from the Voter Participation Center (VPC) or Center for Voter Information (CVI) with inaccurate information. These mailings are meant to target unregistered voters, but are also addressed to registered voters, minors, deceased family members, and even pets.

This is because the VPC builds their mailing lists from data sources containing outdated and incorrect information. These inaccurate mailings often cause confusion and concern among voters, who become worried their registration status has somehow changed. If you are already a registered voter and you receive one of these letters, you do not have to re-register.

These letters do not come from our office, are not official election communication, and we do not provide VPC with voter information. We also do not text you, mail you pre-filled forms, or provide information to third-party organizations who do. However, all voter registration information is public record except for your social security number, driver’s license number or state identification card number, and the source of your voter registration application.

For questions or to be removed from the mailing list, contact:

Voter Participation Center (VPC) at (877) 255-6750

Center for Voter Information (CVI) at (866) 290-1599

We encourage you to check your registration anytime on our website, where you can also get accurate information about voting and upcoming elections.
